Keck Dog Pop Art
Post created Sunday, June 13th, 2010 by admin. No Comments »

Keck currently specializes in Dog Art with a Pop Art feel – but her art history is extensive – she’s produced many works. Her Modern Dog Art Blog showcases the full series of her new work inspired by her own pooches. Keck has donated various works to PETA and is currently running a competition where the person who sends in the cutest pooch picture gets a portrait. Worth checking out this artist.

Pet Urns
Post created Saturday, June 12th, 2010 by admin. No Comments »

This is a little bit morbid, but unfortunately our furry friends don’t last as long as we do, so when we say our heartfelt goodbye its a good idea to honour their memory. For me, when my cat passed I chose an urn because I tend to move house a lot and wanted to take him with me wherever I went. There are loads of pet urns out there, but on my site I’m only interested in the contemporary and [...]

Handmade Photo Albums Perfect for Pet Photo’s
Post created Thursday, June 10th, 2010 by admin. No Comments »

I was recently doing a massive amount of spring cleaning when I found this old photo of my cat Smeagol. I’m so glad I took all these photos of him when he was young. Unfortunately, when I got Nash I didn’t take as many photo’s (I’m making up for it now though). Its always good to keep taking happy snaps of your loved one’s as they change and grow.
Memories do get fuzzy, so its great to look back at photo’s [...]

Stained Glass Pet Portrait
Post created Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 by admin. No Comments »

I did some research on stained glass pet portraits and Lynette Richards is a cut above the rest. Lynette uses black paint made from ground glass and metal oxide to include small details, while other stained glass artists seem to just use the coloured glass on its own to form a picture.  http://rose-window.com/
Another company that uses this technique is “Curious Art Glass”, a small custom shop specia1izing in stained glass portraits. http://www.curiousartglass.com

Ceramic Pet Portraits

Anne Leuk Feldhaus is probably the most successful Pet Portrait Artist I’ve come across. While most of us struggle to get hits on our websites, Anne has her own folk art/pet portrait store in the States and tirelessly blogs about her portraits, art and work with the community.  Her work with clay has a nice contemporary feel, which is why it has found its way onto my website. I like the fact that she has given this dog, which recently [...]

Well, I stumbled across this pet portrait and a strange story about the commissioning of it. I don’t totally understand it – or who Will is (the artist). Its just a great portrait. Maybe you can tell me what’s going on…http://artgoodhitlerbad.com/signs-and-wonders/forcing-the-hand-pt-11/

Intarsia Pet Portraits
Post created Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 by admin. No Comments »

www.square-designs.com uses a technique called “intarsia” to create pet portraits. Its an interesting effect.  Intarsia is a woodworking technique that uses varied shapes, sizes and species of wood that are fitted together to create a 3-dimensional, mosaic-like picture. Intarsia is created through the selection of different types of wood, using their natural grain pattern and color (but can involve the use of stains and dyes) to create variations in the pattern. After selecting the specific woods to be used within [...]

Feathered Dogs
Post created Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 by admin. No Comments »

Wow. Compared to some of the freaky stuff I’m finding on the internet, my portraits are looking very conservative indeedy. For instance, Emily Valentine is making Dogs out of feathers! Its ok, you don’t have to lock up your birds – she gathers the feathers from roadkill.  I’m all for the unusual – and I think Emily has just taken the unusual pet portrait crown. I’m not quite sure about her motives though. Her work explores peoples ideas of how [...]
